Pokemon Black and White versions release in Japan this coming Saturday. information on these epic games has been leaking all week. as a highly competitive Pokemon battler, I’m extremely excited. thanks to the Spanish bros over at Pokexperto.com, we now have a full roster of all the leaked new Pokemon from the games.

there are a total of 156 new Pokemon in the Black & White versions. my first impressions upon looking at the batch are very similar to when I was first introduced to the Diamond/Pearl Pokemon. most of them are honestly absurd looking. some look downright stupid, while others are kinda funny and/or cool. in the end though, I’ve learned that a lot of these creatures will grow on me in time, depending on how they actually play in the competitive battling metagame.

here are a few i would like to comment on:

these are the three final evolutions of the starters. i think just about all 9 forms of the them are absolutely horrendous looking. an otter, fire pig, and a grass serpent that looks too similar to Milotic? i think they were smoking bad grass when designing these guys. all three of these Pokemon have received critical hits from the ugly stick..

a Tauros evolution perhaps? it has a giant afro and looks pissed off. this guy is awesome.

if there is one thing we don’t need more of in Pokemon, it’s birds. bears on the other hand, why, yes please.

this Pokemon reminded me a lot of the Ragnarok Online monster, Pinguicula.

these two guys are just sick. a badass alligator, and some fire demon dude. i love their expressions.

this evolution chain of fighting type Pokemon definitely stuck out to me the most. it seems that even Nintendo/Gamefreak is cashing in on the whole Jersey Shore phenomenon. a fit personal trainer evolves into a ripped guido weight lifter who then evolves into an old washed up boxing veteran. i love these guys, bro!

there are three elemental monkeys in Black & White. they are two part evolutions each. this one is the water monkey. i think she’s adorable. :p

these Pokemon all made me laugh, and look really awkward. i mean, don’t they just look uncomfortable? i can only imagine the dozens of Pokemon that Gamefreak DECLINES in the process of making the game.

in each generation, i feel that the sets of Pokemon become less and less “Nintendo-esque”. compared the earlier generations, they are nothing alike. a lot of them look so strange that you can’t even describe them to someone who hasn’t seen them already. i’m personally sick and tired of seeing legendaries that look like stupid aliens and indistinguishable robots. let’s stick to variations of recognizable beasts, please. these aren’t Digimon or Neopets for Christ’s sake.
