It was most likely something like that, due to his age, the diseases he had, weight loss, former addiction to demerol, and numerous surgeries, it’s no wonder he died.

All it means is that your heart simply stopped beating, which could be caused by anything that kills you. It’s a very vague term for cause of death, therefore we don’t really know what happened.
