Greatest Videos Part 5

by

Yeah yeah I know I said this would be a weekly thing and it’s been way more than a week but give me some slack. I’m unemployed and doing odd jobs so I can afford to go out and party.

Prior Note: I will be going along to the Street Performance World Championship this weekend (and possibly covering it if I deem it interesting enough). It’s held in my city (Dublin) in Merrion Square Park from the 18th-21st of June from noon to 8pm. I doubt anyone who reads this is Irish, but if there are some Irish readers then come along! It’s FREE ENTRY and the weather’s supposed to be awesome. I should be there with some friends and my camera to document it so come up and say hi if you recognise me ambling about drunkenly.

Anyways onto the list.

#5. Gay Bar – Electric Six.

Both versions of this video rock. Electric Six are hilarious and this song is awesome. It’s stupid that War is blanked out yet gay isn’t. Just shows you how twisted censors are.

Release Date: 2003

More Videos after the cut!

#4. My Name is – Eminem.

Ah the old days. Back when Eminem was awesome. So many lyrics were changed in the Radio/TV edit. It’s pretty hilarious. “Hi kids do you like Primus?” instead of violence. I used to sing this in the car with my mom. We were so cool…

Release Date: 1999

#3. Island in the Sun – Weezer.

Baby Animals and an awesome chilled out song, what more does it need? Directed by Spike Jonze. The Mexican Wedding One deserves notable mention, but I think this video is much more suited to the song.

…I wish I had a baby bear. ]:

Release Date: 2001

#2. Sabotage – Beastie Boys.

This video is absolutely hilarious. This version also has all the unseen footage including the before and after scenes. 70′s Cop Drama shows for the win. Again directed by the Jonze-master. I love his choice of shots, especially the circling and high angle ones.

Release Date: 1994

#1. Praise You – Fat Boy Slim.

This is probably my favourite Spike Jonze music video ever. The whole thing is just hilarious, the fact that it was shot guerilla style makes it even funnier, especially since that is Spike Jonze himself in the video. The owner of the theatre is the guy who comes along and turns off the stereo haha. Imagine how pissed he must have been when he saw himself on the telly. You can also see Norman Cook a.k.a. Fatboy Slim at the end of the video when Jonze is talking about the dance. He’s the guy who pops up behind Jonze and looks at the camera before walking to the right.

If there’s anyone you know who thinks Spike Jonze sucks, show them this video and point out that it’s him. If they’re not amazed, I give you permission to punch them in the face.

Release Date: 1999

That’s all folks.
